Welcome to the 2007-2008 Youth Folkstyle Wrestling Season and the Blue Springs Missouri - Western Stars Youth Wrestling Club! This past season our wrestling club grew to over 120 boys and girls ages 4-14. Our team placed 4th in the Missouri State Class 3 Championships and we had 4 State Champions and 14 All-State Placers. We also had a total of 10 National Champions and 24 All-American placers. This year we we will continue to conduct Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced practices as well as continue the "Elite" night with specialized training for our most dedicated wrestlers. We will compete in local, regional, state, and national level tournaments between December and March. Continuing this season there will be a "Rookie State" and "6 Year Old State" tournament on March 1 for first year and 6&Under wrestlers only. The culminating events are the State and National Level Championships that begin March 8 and go through April 12. Wrestlers begin with a District tournament and the top 6 advance to the Regional tournament. The top 4 wrestlers from that tournament then advance to the State tournament held at the Hernes Center in Columbia, MO. Last year the Western Stars were the District 3 and Region B Champions, and the Missouri State Class 3 4th Place. Our 14 and under team was the Missouri State Team Champions in 2006.

The strength of our club stems from its long family oriented tradition where wrestling has been passed down from generation to generation. Our coaches and club administrators are all volunteers who have a deep passion for the sport, the youth wrestlers, and what this sport teaches them that will have life long value. One aspect that every successful wrestler has is a supportive family behind them and the Western Stars consists of many families brought together throughout our community to form an extended family that generates an even higher level of support for our youth wrestlers. With the contemporary direction that several other clubs have taken of building elite select teams with "For Pay" coaching and administration we feel our family oriented approach will set us above and apart from our competition. Be a Wrestler! Be a Champion! "No Fear" | This year our team slogan is "No Fear" where we hope to teach our youth wrestlers to overcome this biggest obstacle that many athletes face that keep them from becoming champions. There are hard goals to set, hard work to put in, and hard lessons to learn along the way in pursuit of ones goals. It will not necessarily be a continuous string of victories and gold medals on their road to becoming a champion, but a journey with trials and tribulations along the way. The true test of a champion is in how bad they want to achieve their goals and what dedication, hard work, and sacrifice they are willing to go through to accomplish them. Then sometimes they just have to have "No Fear" to reach their full potential. Sometimes the bigger test will be when they fall short of reaching a goal and rather they accept that or recommit themselves to come back better and stronger in the pursuit of that goal afterwards. We feel it is the latter trait that truly makes a good wrestler and a true "Champion". As Dan Gable has said about wrestling, "What is good about wrestling is it teaches us about life. In wrestling you have to learn to stay off of your back and in life there will continually be times when you feel you are about to be pinned."
For those families new to the sport of wrestling you are about to embark on a priceless journey of watching your children learn lessons that most adults have yet to learn. These lessons will help give them an edge in all competitive situations they will face throughout their life. From the thrills of victory to the agony of defeat, through the sweat and tears they will learn to build and rebuild their self-confidence and self-esteem. In youth wrestling there is no bench or sideline and every child gets an equal opportunity to participate and compete. When a wrestler steps on the line to start a match they instantly become the quarterback, pitcher, shooting guard, and in some respects their own coach. A victory becomes theirs to cherish as they earned it, but a loss is equally theirs and the lessons they learn here are the keys to becoming a Champion in wrestling and in life. Go Blue Springs - Western Stars!
